-I love taking family photos, but I love it even more when i get to be in them! You can try these with a tripod and a timer but I would recommend getting yourself a wireless remote before attempting with children, or with this many people for that matter! We took countless photos and just like at work, there's almost always one or more people not looking straight ahead. Too often I don't offer to take my families photo, thinking it's a hassle and a bother for them all. More often than not it's exactly what they all hoped for! Thanks for wonderful Holiday breakfast, fun opening presents, and a wonderful outing at the park! I hope we can do it again soon! Lit with a single Large Octabox with Einstein 640 directly over the camera. I think I'm in love with 50mm 1.2 L !!! It goes back to Glazer's rentals tomorrow.... :( http://flic.kr/p/iBrCZR

Prepared
All ready for family pics. This is what happens when I don't shoot outdoors for a while. I tend to bring the kitchen sink with me! You never quite know what light you'll be given even when you scout an area hours beforehand! This particular day started off as a gorgeous sunny afternoon with the sun nice and low in the sky to create warm soft long shadows. The sun was moving quickly, however, and the light was changing rapidly. At one point it was if someone just turned out the lights as the sun dropped below some clouds on the horizon. Then it was time to switch to all natural light. You don't need all this stuff to take good family photos, but I used every piece of it at one point in my last shoot. Thanks Erin for seeing this photograph before I packed it all up and helping me carry it all throughout the park! http://flic.kr/p/hWuBty
