Ayo and the Uppercuts (Concrete Background)

Going through some old photographs and found this image shot on a gray background with rim lighting. This is perfect for a background swap. Added a bit of atmosphere with render clouds in photoshop. Rendered lens flare as well. Lit with socked beauty dish above with Einstein 640 Two rims provided by b800's through small strip boxes on either side. http://flic.kr/p/qkpVff

Batman to Save the Day

THE MASKED CRUSADER IS BACK and this time he brought help! Love these girls! Love this kid! shot with gridded and socked beauty dish to prevent too much spill on the background. Rim's provided by ab800's on either side through stripboxes. Background was gathered from both a blend of brick wall and metal garage door. Floor from concrete. Power Couple

CAN YOU SAY POWER COUPLE!!!! THESE TWO BELONG IN A MAGAZINE! Love Love Love overcast days when working outside! I get to bring as much drama as I want into the scene when I'm not battling the sun. Here it's done with a simple Nikon Sb28 speedlite camera left with a cto gel for a little added warmth. The key was provided by a large Octa camera right. This is why you put you subject in position before you ready and let them stand naturally. More times than not, by the time you look up they're in a great starting position if not a perfect one. Only small adjustments made to this pose. Way to go Ben and Angela! Thanks Again Darren! http://flic.kr/p/p88GPX

Harbor West

I'M SUPER BUMMED I MISSED THE AWESOME SUNSET LAST NIGHT!!! So many great photos taken by phones of the amazing Seattle sunset! I was just a little too late! I did manage to get my ass down to alki with enough time to take this shot. Taken with a single exposure with detail and color brought out with some pixel massaging in lightroom and photoshop. www.nakean.com http://flic.kr/p/ojeYX7

Harbor West

Going back I found another image I really like mostly because of the foreground and warmer tones. This makes me only want to shoot at this time of day/night. I bet my portraits would be better! www.nakean.com http://flic.kr/p/ojeZ2L

Poor Man's Macro

Picked up an extension tube (poor man's macro lens) for my camera yesterday!! First outing yielded some success I think. It's interesting how they work. Essentially, the tube goes between your lens and the camera. It will fit any of your lenses. The further your lens sits from your sensor the closer you are able to focus on you subject. What do you guys think? Lit with single Einstein camera right. http://flic.kr/p/nRPHRu

Joe Mcnally took my photo!

Artist: JOE MCNALLY Copyright: JOE MCNALLY Not only did I get to experience an awesome Seminar taught by one of the greatest speedlight photographers in the world, Mr, Joe McNally Photography actually took my photo on set yesterday! I met some cool people and new creative connections and got to spend some time with a good friend. I couldn't bring myself to edit them just yet so these are straight from his D4s! Lit with tiny gridded beauty dish boomed above camera. Two bare speedlites at 45 degrees behind myself on either side for rim. www.nakean.com http://flic.kr/p/nRdusV

Confidence

A great closeup of Jaybrie Brown from our shoot some time ago. Adhering to the same theme of simplicity here. I love the contrast of his shirt with his skin. I'm also diggin the shallow depth of field that draws your into his eyes. This was lit with a large octa boomed overhead and a 64" PLM directly behind myself and and the camera. If you look in the eyes you can see the catch lights from both modifiers. http://flic.kr/p/nPVq81

Simple Yet Effective

Here's a closeup of Norris Frederick from our first shoot. If you know me then you know I'm obsessed with lighting in general. I love complicated multiple light setups to bring attentention to a specific object or place in the frame. However, lately, I've found comfort and beauty in single light setups. They're much more organic and feel so real. I thought this was fitting for a man like Norris, because he is the real deal! Lit with a single gridded beauty dish through Einstein 640 boomed overhead. No reflector no rim. http://flic.kr/p/nPkNAp

This little girl was full of so much energy! I surprised I was able to capture this photo of her! According to mom this is her, "asking mom if everything is ok" face. Superman

A great session with Norris Frederick a couple days ago in the studio! He's an Olympic Athlete bound for greatness. With ridiculous airtime in the long jump and High Jump it's easy to confuse him with superman! Lit with gridded x800. camera right and einstein through gridded beauty dish boomed overhead set to almost no power. http://flic.kr/p/nVD6ns

Golden Gardens Stretch

For composites, lighting has to match your background. As a photographer it's funny how differently you see the world in terms of light, quantity of light and quality of it. When you start creating composites in which you need to capture backgrounds it ads a whole new element in which to view your surrounding through. Thanks Angela for being patient and bending over backward, literally, to make a cool image. Strobist info: Photographed in my West Seattle Studio Einstein through 60" Softlighter boomed above, b800's through gridded striplights for rim lights on either side. www.nakean.com http://flic.kr/p/nU22LK

Bed Time Storys

I haven't had a lot of inspiration regarding composites lately. There are so many amazing images online to draw from, but the more images I see the harder it can be to find my own vision. This popped in my head last night and I just had to execute! Lit with 60" Photoflex SoftlighterII above camera with Einstein E640 2x AB800's through gridded striplights for rim. http://flic.kr/p/nTxCbM

Backyard Summer Fun

Some of the best advice I've ever received from Gregory Heisler (not personaly but in his book) was, if your first inclination is to shoot from high, try shooting your subject from down low. If your first idea is to shoot on the long end of the lens, try it wide. Doesn't get much lower or wider than this A great summer shot! Here's a little gem from yesterday's testing of the photek softlighter II in the backyard. 60 inches of soft goodness that folds just like any umbrella! I'll be using it alone for a group photo today! — at Nakean Photography. Lit with single Einstein 640 through 60" softlighter II above the camera. http://flic.kr/p/nkAQEH
